How could I not be positive?

How could I not be positive about the year ahead? There are always questions at this time of year about the year just gone and plans for the new one ahead. Answers and plans to achieve are also easily formed and less easily fulfilled - some falling apart on New Year's Day itself. We've had a... Sign in to see full entry.

Winter sunshine

The winter sunshine warmed my face this morning as I gazed out over the Fens. There is an endless, infinite quality about this land that I have always loved, lit as it is by unusual shades of seasonal illuminations. I haven't been able to sit outside in a t-shirt in December for a long, long time.... Sign in to see full entry.

I don't think I'll want to play with this again

Ivan, our eldest son, is thirteen. His room reflects this. Littered with old toys and books and general collectors items which have a value only to him, it has become a clearing room for new items - computer games, CDs and newer books and magazines. In short, it is a comment on the change from... Sign in to see full entry.

I just wish he'd tell me

We've been worried about our younger son, Christian, lately. He seems listless and apt to get cross more quickly than is usual. He's normally a sunny little boy and very easy-going. We've noticed it especially when he's been around his younger sister, Claire. He's giving her some pretty vicious... Sign in to see full entry.

Winning sport

Christian and I watched the annual television review of sport: ‘Sports Personality of the Year,’ last night. It was good to put all of the lights out, save for those on the Christmas tree, and remember all of the major sporting events and individuals that have passed since we watched it last year. I... Dancing family

We were down in Covent Garden yesterday to watch Claire's dance class. We're only allowed to watch one class, at the end of each term, and it was marvellous to be in such a fantastic studio space watching our daughter. Christian came too and played on his Gameboy, while listening to Green Day on his... Sign in to see full entry.

Internet relay

When I’d finished blogging last night and cruised around a few websites I went to find my wife in the main downstairs room. She too had been online preparing for a ‘chat’ with her friends via internet relay. Unfortunately we’d had the computer upgraded that she normally uses for this and the MIRC... Two women

I picked Claire up from her dance and drama class on the way home from work this evening, leaving Susan there to complete her teaching stint. We then drove to Granny's where Ivan was already having his tea. Claire chattered non-stop about her day at school and, very excitedly and with a... Sign in to see full entry.

The Lord is my Shepherd

I haven't heard, read or thought about the words to Psalm 23 since my Grandad's funeral over 29 years ago. It is probably because of that day that I would, in any case, sought to have blocked them out, however subconsciously. I am not 'religious' in the sense that I can quote lines and lessons from... Glasses

Isn't it weird how you translate one activity into another when they're totally urelated? My glasses have obviously got slightly out of alignment on the way home and consequently I am experiencing a little pain behind the ears and in my nose. It will just be a case of adjusting them slightly and all... Sign in to see full entry.
