Let's Have a Lynchin' - A Bizarre Story

This is perhaps the stangest story I've heard in awhile. We were talking about enforcing water quality regulations in Erwin, Tennessee when somebody brought up Mary the Elephant. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_the_Elephant Sign in to see full entry.

I stood this morning sipping coffee in front of Nashville's Downtown Presbyterian Church. Liberated from cigarettes with nothing to occupy the time I would have spent smoking I stared up at the brick bell towers of the church. Once tall they are now dwarfed by two 30 plus story buildings and will... Sign in to see full entry.

The Judge Is Way, Way Out Of Line

Federal Judge Kenneth M. Karas sentenced Marion Jones to six months in prison for lying about her use of performance enhancing drugs and her knowledge of a check cashing scam. Apparently that last item wasn't a big of an issue as it may sound however. Adding insult to injury Karas had the audacity... Sign in to see full entry.

A Tennessee Lovefest at Lunch

Just came in from a lunch break. Gyro sandwiches taste good. It being twice as warm as the average temperature should be today 70, avg 43) I walked up to Legistlative Plaza to eat under the statue of Mars and be surrounded by the plaques bearing the names of 1800 Tennesseans killed in The Great War... Overcoming Fear

I have been reading a lot lately and that is one thing I'm going to try to cut back on in 2008. Both of the authors who I have been reading advise against the the folly of reading too many books and the accumulation of too much stagnant knowledge. I mix a short can with one egg, some black pepper, a splash of lime juice, and a good dose of Old Bay.... Sign in to see full entry.

Art and War and the American Voice

I've been reading Henry Miller lately. Not his famous pornographic works but his less known and more interesting non-fiction. Right now I'm just gathering some thoughts before I post a two part review of The Air Conditioned Nightmare in which Miller and a friend drive around the country in the early... It's Getting So A Man Can't Survive

Its getting so a man can't survive. I tell you what. Over this past weekend I had to empty out my storage unit because it was $78 dollars I needed somewhere else in my budget, though I have to admit: my "budget" is spending what I want to and looking at my checking account balance online a week... I Live A Slacker Life

I live a slacker life. Yesterday I left work at noon and didn’t tell anybody. I drove home and took a nap. I’m a state official…I have no boss. When I do sit at work I read reports sent in from the field offices about people who don’t take all the steps required when treating drinking water and they... Sign in to see full entry.
