Ciao! Ciao!

I am off tomorrow to spend a few weeks in Italy! To say I'm excited is an understatement, I feel like a mexican jumping bean after 8 espressos! The last few days have been hectic trying to re-book flights. I had bought a ticket with Zoom airlines, the carrier that went belly-up. Thankfully I was... Sign in to see full entry.

Canada's National Anthem

While it may be considered disrespectful to poke fun at Canada's national anthem, this is too hilarious not to share. My grandbaby is 3 1/2 and is attending nursery school. The class recently was given a lesson about Canada and our national anthem. The children were all taught the words to the song... Sign in to see full entry.

Why getting fit is bad for you

One of the things on my 'to do' list is to get a fitness routine going. Exercising is not something I enjoy so I tend to find all sorts of excuses to put it off. I recently began working with a trainer and although I feel like my legs are going to fall off most days, overall I do feel better. Until... Sign in to see full entry.

Woohoo! Chef school exam

In previous posts I mentioned that I was attending culinary school to get my chef's credentials. Today was the final exam in the practical component. I had to design and prepare a menu on a deadline with 5% being deducted for each minute that the dishes came out late. I am happy to say the day went... Sign in to see full entry.

Not too shabby!

My previous post talked about the competition at culinary school I'm attending. I came in second in the whole school!! Cool or what?? Unfortunately only the top entry goes forward to represent the school but I'm happy to get second place. The mishap with the knife is healing well and no injuries... Sign in to see full entry.

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off to school I go

In previous posts I wrote about my plan to chuck the corporate life and follow my passions, one of those being enroling in culinary school. This week was the beginning of school and it's been a hoot. The college participates in a North American competition and today we cooked a favourite recipe to... Sign in to see full entry.

Have you ever wanted to?

My last few posts have been about my Mom's health struggle. She is in palliative care, with heart, liver and kidney failure. No one can tell us a prognosis, other than to say it's not good. The family (older sister and her kids mostly) is dysfunctional at best, but we have tried to figure out a... Sign in to see full entry.

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers

My Mom continues to struggle, the doctors are recommending transferring her to paliative care on Monday as she is not getting any rest in the cardiac ward. Thank god for family at a time like this, we are able to have someone with her around the clock. It is so sad to see some patients all alone... Sign in to see full entry.

Lousy couple of weeks

Haven't been around lately. My Mom was admitted to hospital a week ago and is fighting heart failure and pneumonia. The docs think she may have also had a small stroke which is leaving her delusional (or it could be the meds/infections). She is terrified to be around anyone she doesn't know so the... This is my rant for today. I live in a townhouse complex that is currently replacing all the fencing around the property including everyone's backyards. The company that was contracted to do the work is soooo slow. There are 4 guys that seem to spend more time having coffee than actually doing any... Sign in to see full entry.
