Mental Abuse and Mutilation Some parents coerce and control their children's behavior with physical violence and threats of abuse, even denial of basic needs. Children who are raised this way suffer mental and emotional pain, so much so that American citizens recognized the suffering and petitioned the government to create laws to protect children from parents who abuse and beat them.
