Life and death are being discussed too much in Abuelita’s life lately. I’ve had to face my own mortality and that of others recently and am unwilling to do so, I find. Like all good Americans, I refuse to embrace the concept and prefer to be terribly surprised if anything untoward should happen in my vicinity.
