I'm a freelance writer/editor living in a small rural town in the Far North of New Zealand. I guess I'm semi-retired, but I seem to be as busy now as I was when I was news editor on a daily newspaper. I'm rediscovering the highs and lows of life in an area which has much to offer but has been largely neglected by the wider world: The mod cons of civilization cannot be taken for granted here. It's a world which is not insulated from the vagaries of nature in the way that a city is, where people have to be their own builders and electricians and plumbers and mechanics, where neighbors walk into each others' houses for a chat and a coffee ... but all of this will be described as I continue my daily musings, so I'll leave you now to find your way to my blog .....
