Don Hayen was born and raised in Kansas. Though the sunflower state in 1959, his heart and much of his family remain there. He treasures the memories of those days; wandering the countryside, fishing the streams and hunting rabbits in the hedge rows.
It was a wonderful time to grow up in mid-America. Children had more independence; opportunities to discover by trial and error the world they lived in. After all, their parents and grandparents had been raised in the stark frontier where they experienced dangers few would understand today. They wanted their children to be prepared for whatever life threw at them.
Hayen earned a BA and MD degree from the University of Kansas. A twelve year hitch in the Navy during the Vietnam era brought him to California where he practiced medicine for over three decades, specializing in Dermatology.
He has written general interest and business articles for various national magazines and twice won the prestigious Physician’s Writer Contest for Medical Economic Magazine. Moonshine Harvest is his first work of fiction.
