Raised primarily in New Mexico and Texas, went to high school in Calif. Went on to college at Pepperdine, UC Riverside and University of Bordeaux, France. Lived in New Jersey for about 15 years, where I studied martial arts - and loved it. Was there when the WTC collapsed. Currently in southern San Joaquin valley, Calif.
Have camped by myself since I was 20... not because I'm anti-social but because no one wanted to go camping as much as me. Or take the risks I did. (They thought they were risks, but they really weren't). Have camped in Yosemite, Sequoia, Death Valley, Golden Trout Wilderness (backpacking), many "secret" places in Calif - and also many campgrounds and wilderness spots in New Jersey. Yes, there is wilderness in New Jersey.
I estimate that, all together, I have camped outdoors about two and a half years total. That includes one-nighters as well as a couple of six-month stints.
Hot air balloon student pilot, scuba certified, black belt, college degree in English. Very well travelled.
Took a survival and nature awareness class from Tom Brown Jr in 1985 and got thoroughly hooked, taking numerous classes later.
Have taught karate, meditation - really love teaching.
