Description

I wanted this to be short and fun. Instead, it turned out to be long and creepy.

Excerpt

Your demons (your internal fears, darkest fantasies, your deepest yet unrevealed wishes), scary as they might be, can be tamed enough to bring you bread… or at least good stories (or poems, for that matter, but let’s not complicate things).

They are the main source of horror stories (obviously), but also the most powerful drive for just about any genre, be it mystery (like “I am deeply afraid of getting lost in unfamiliar country”) or fantasy (“I’m petrified at a mere thought of basilisk’s petrifying gaze”) or even romance (“I have a secret wish of falling in love with this blue-eyed snowboarder… but wouldn’t he leave me for a more beautiful girl?”).

However, it is not so easy to coerce your demons to work for you. They’re lazy and shady, and cunning beings. So, to help us understand how the literary exorcism works, let’s talk with an imaginary Johnny and his deepest fears.
