Three hours after dinner, our romantic week-end plans had evaporated like a fog. Deana and Jim’s parents weren’t leaving for Boston with the twins as planned until morning. And Timmy had decided to skip his team’s outing.

As I watched Jim undress partially hidden behind the open closet door -- our bedroom door was open -- I knew there’d be no flames of passion burning in our bed that night. In 22 years of marriage Jim had never made love to me while his parents were under the same roof. I knew it wouldn’t help to try to convince him otherwise now.
