I did not expect or see that ending coming. Since there was emphasis on the car I was certain she was going to pack her bags and head out for parts unknown. A moral(s) to the story for me would be protect your karma or those who are overconfident tend to bring dire consequences on themselves. Either way she yelling from the rooftops: free at last, hallelujah, free at last. This is a fine short story!

Pat, from what I know, it couldn't have happened to a better person! I have to say, his wife is free. They could have had a nice life together if he wasn't so self-centered. Great writing! I hope you have a good day!
