I hate HOAs. Yet another one of those good but often bad property control programs. Yes, it is good to have others look out for us. Plus, we can't see everything. So glad you took action. You are correct; people think that when you become old, you suddenly become gullible and weak. You don't get old without intelligence. I still learn from my mother.

They are checking up on shoddy builders etc., here. It is about time. Once folk has a certificate of workmanship, now any person can mostly patch up repairs and charge.
It is always wise to get an estimate and keep an eye on the work. 🌺

This serves as another reminder as to why we avoided buying a home in an HOA community. The guy who fixed your fence is an ass for pulling a stunt like that. I'm glad he was caught for his subpar work. Nothing is cheap anymore except for some of the idiot contractors trusted to do a good job.
