Yes, there is a great satisfaction being able to evade the worst of it! One way is to go slower than the posted limit. Then everyone else goes around you and no one wants to be behind you! Lack of safe distance between cars is the reason we get the occasional 60 car pile-up! They blame the weather usually, but it is human stupidity really.

Here the toll roads are quite a bit less expensive, and for the lighter, less chaotic traffic, I'm glad to pay it! If you get the free transponder to stick on your windshield, it's the best deal. Also, you pay ahead whatever amount you want, and it is deducted when you use it.

That was quite the trek. I.suppose toll roads are necessary but I'm not a fan if them. Once in California we took a short toll road, perhaps half a mile and it $20. There wasn't a a toll amount listed, payment was with debit or credit card. It's great you we're able to get Charlie to his meeting place.

Thank goodness you had an alternate route. When I can, I always take the country roads, more for the scenery than anything else.

I am quite sure the USA is not a good place to have to drive though I always felt safe with Jim. he drove a bit fast for me, but he always said one had to keep up with the speed traffic was going.
