I recently posted how God answered a prayer; then I found out that the person who did a job for me had asked the Lord for more clients to keep his business going. It was providence that brought us together. A five plus years problem was fixed when 4 other people couldn't get it fixed. Your mother can rely on the Lord which I get the feeling through your devotion to Him came from her as well. The Lord takes care of in ways that aren't always revealed until it's time for us to understand. I'm pleased to read she focuses on what she can do. That in itself is the key to maintaining independence!

Good Evening
I think viewing life with a smile makes everything better. I can just see your Mom smiling as she goes through her day, and that's the best way to be.

You are 100% on point. Venting our worries, fears, and stressful situations is therapeutic because, as humans, we are reaching for a solution to whatever troubles our minds. Keeping things bottled up is never the answer. I learned many years ago that you can never fully appreciate joy without first experiencing the many pitfalls that come along through our life's journeys. We just have to be careful of the "obstacle thief" and not allow it to take away the things that make us happy.

BearCat....
Obstacles vs Joy..... If I'm facing obstacles, which I do day in and day out at my age, I either play music or I sing. If I'm sitting and no one is around, I do sitting exercises while I sit, If no one is here besides me, I take my shoes off and wiggle my toes. I smile at everyone....even if I do not like their attitude or their looks. That's just me. I grew up in a home where everyone loved my Mother & my Dad. The Joy of the Lord was the strength of our family.

Focusing on the negatives and challenges comes from the body's perspective on life, based in fear and self-protection.
Focusing on the joys and blessings and moments of good luck shifts our perspective to that of the spirit.
"You don't have a soul: You are a soul, you have a body." (This quote has been attributed to various sources, one of which is CS Lewis.)

As an old person myself, I can relate to issues your mother's dealing with these days. There was a saying, a line from a play or poem from decades ago that comes to mind. "Grow old along with me. The best is yet to be -- the last of life for which the first was made." You are wise to take your approach and count your blessings.
