I suspect it was a parking lot imp who sneaks around hammering nails into random tires. I can think of no better explanation.
Every pet we have to bid farewell is practice, I think, for bigger, harder and equally inevitable farewells.

A pity pets do not live longer, but I suppose a shorter happy life is not so dusty..
