While we are on this delicate subject, the two men who drove the horse-drawn cart
that emptied the buckets weekly. For some reason always stopped and ate their lunch
outside our our gateway. At Christmas, they would knock on the door, bucket in hand and
wish the owner a Happy Christmas. 🌺

Taps, thanks for sharing your memories. My grandparents had an outhouse, and I was afraid of it. I thought there were snakes in there. I'm thinking maybe there were. I hope you have a good evening.

I had a friend whose outhouse was invaded by wasps with a nest under the seat. Every once in a while someone got stung in a vulnerable place. The man of the house ended up burning the outhouse down and building a new one elsewhere.

Kindergartners are so susceptible to imagined fears since they don't know how things work or where the nurse's office is, what's dangerous and what's just kind of wonderful!

Good morning. Angels come in many forms. I'm glad that one found you on that day when you needed a helping hand. As for the flushing toilet, my mom had a similar experience. She was raised in the backwoods of Maryland. The outhouse gave her nightmares because you had to watch out for the slithery woodland creatures, but she was overjoyed with the new technology of a toilet that didn't come with the stench.
