It would be so nice if that ring found its way back to you somehow.

Your post reminded me of a sapphire art deco pin of my mother’s. It may have been glass but I loved it as a child. It too disappeared. The pin was oval and ioen with the  sapphire and some diamonds (real or not) set as being a flower. Sad when things disappear.

Good morning. That boyfriend of yours wasn't playing around. Forty dollars in 1953 was close to $500.00. I'm sorry that happened to you. The ring sounds similar to the one that Princess Diane wore.
