I did not know her as one of the First Lady writers in English. But I’ll certainly go through her writings as one of my students is researching about women writers of the Elizabethan times, from Surrey England

Emilia Lanier was also her name. She was a writer, one of the first poetesses to publish in English. She is fascinating to read of in relation to Shakespeare. 🌹😄

Emilia Bassano
first appeared in the play Othello as the wife of Roderigo Iago, Othello’s ensign and also Desdemona’s maidservant. ‘Dark Lady’, … enigmatic, as she was called, according to many historians was believed to have been the inspiration behind many of her sonnets, but maybe, not for Shakespeare’s tragedies. There are hints, but not clear-cut indications.

Did they ever settle the thought that QE1 may have written some of the works? Or Bacon or Marlowe?

I love reading Shakespeare....esp out loud. My sisters and I used to do round-robin reading of his writings in the way it should sound then......And, we did enjoy the movie.
