Sherri G,

Matthew Arnold was highly intelligent but he had some quirks too. His deep moral sense kept him at a distance from the practical approach to life. And, the world doesn’t run on morals. Great poets can either be serious or humorous. Alexander Pope, Dryden, Shelley were extremely witty and it’s a pleasure to read them. Ancients have their buildings to do, and so are poets of different ages.

Critic or not, one thing about poetry is that they can seriously move the reader. Critiquing a poet's words negatively reflects on a lack of inspiration in his works. Simply put, not all poetry is good.
