Canes were used and one school teacher had a small canon which fired nasty little pellets at a pupil who was not paying attention.  I was whacked across the back of my hand until it bled because I just stood and did not yell out as did the bully boy much to the classes amusement,🌺

Love this story. I was in school in the late 60s and early 70s. We definitely got the paddle in public school in Ohio. Never on the forehead. But I remember the out-of-control classmates. There is always one troublemaker.

Corporal punishment seemed to be a thing in schools up until the late 70s and early 80s when recognized child abuse was becoming a big deal. My hubby used to get whacked on his hand for writing left-handed, and schools were still giving out hacks from a wooden board on the bottom to out of control students. I used to smack my girls on the bottom when they acted up, but never in an overkill manner. There is a big difference between a beating and a whack, but on the forehead probably wasn't a smart idea.
