So to me on this one Ibsen sold out; he opted for sensationalism as content. Artistic sensitivity can be handled in many ways and this may cross a line for those days - or any day.  As he said, it got him a banquet with the King of Sweden, though.

Actually when I read this play I was not very taken with it myself.

With a father figure like that, she is better off remaining fatherless. I'd stick that petticoat up his rear orifice and set fire to his beloved brothel.
