Can you imagine someone now scooping gas from a barrel to put into a car? That would be quite the scene.

Hm, we used to deliver paraffin to the door a bit cheaper than petrol  16 pence a gallon we never bother to measure it much just filled the cans probably over a gallon. Also did minor repairs free replacing wicks and and swilling lamps etc due to condensation, often in snow as the Winters were much colder in those days. 240 pennies in the pound.

I always think of it in a small bag or cone of sweets. What hdd cost my Dad when he was young in say 1918 was 1 penny now coast cost me 3 or 4 pennies in the late 1940's early 50's
