You were brave to not go see them, at that age I doubt I would have been able to do that. Kudo to you though!

I vaguely remember my high school guidance counselor, but I do recall that he was easy going. Having a hard nose role model would not have been much fun. Obviously, he didn't see you as trouble, so that more than likely didn't hurt when dealing with him.
