Excellent Post. My last Husband was a member of Alcoholics anonymous for nearly 60 years. If someone said to him I am going to buy myself a couple of bottle of whatever it was they craved.....he would say to them, "well some people have to do that and so if you have to, go ahead and do it." Mostly they would be so hurt and angry at his supposed lack of support they would stay sober to spite him, then ring for a long chat the next day; still sober.

You are right but you can try to help people become “recovered” but until they realize they have hit rock bottom for themselves they may not rehab for long.

I grew up with a few alcoholic "role models" in my life. It is one of the toughest situations to get an alcoholic to acknowledge that they have a problem. It sometimes takes a hard life lesson for them to see the reality of their dangerous behavior before it is too late.
