Thank you, dear Brother Aba. This post is most excellent, one of your best, perhaps. The poem is new to me. As I read it, an unusual thought came to mind about it. I will need to study it further. A masterpiece of poetry, it is. 🌹

Yes one can feel the chill of mortal man , the futility and even the bleak future lost forever.

Although war is at times necessary, I find nothing glamorous about it. Those who do are the purest form of ugly. 👹

I had not read this poem before now. I read it 4 times. Every read revealed something different. I was unaware of the using consonants before and after vowels which is so intriguing. The symbolism contained will take many more reads to find it all. The close is haunting as well, how frightful to counter but hands loathe and cold, almost resignation in what hell does fighting and killing truly accomplish. The sleep can be interpreted to be whatever the reader desires, e.g. dying, quitting, quiet symphony,  a hidden cave for refuge, etal. Magnificent writing. Soldiers truly know what war does to the mind. Poems like this inspire other poets to dig deep into the recesses of their own minds to touch imagery with thoughts encompassing a vast array techniques. I am truly inspired by this poem. Kudos on the detailed explanation which has always been a great asset you possess. It is so wonderful to read your posts again my Bro!
