He has to escape the pressure! I think I might have done the same. My parents were members if the Moose lodge. My mother was president of the women's auxiliary. When she asked me to join i didn't want to because I was not into the lodge thing. However i knew it would look bad for her and I joined. Luckily I got a job out of state and didn't attend meetings again. So thankful to mot have it the rails. Lol

Good Morning

I can imagine why Slim left his home and family.  He did not want to be involved with the Freemasons, and his father was insisting that he join them.  He had his own beliefs and wanted to make his own choices.

This is really fascinating and interesting about Hursel. His dad, I can understand in a way. But Hursel or Slim was his own man. Either he knew or sensed something was about that was contrary to his own way of thinking, I guess. This was a twist I didn't expect. Great telling of the tale. Thank you.

Re: Kabu....

I can sure remember my grandma (Ollie) complaining about him participating in that "foofaraw" stuff or she would swear up and down that it was secretly the KKK.  We would sit on the porch swing together many years after he had died and she was still upset about it.

My Dad was invited into the Freemasons at different times in his life. He thought it was Tom- foolary as he would say to Mother. he couldn't imagine how or why he would have secrets from his wife. I can't imagine her not teasing most of them out of him either.

I have often seen lots of family tension, especially today in this political climate we live in.

When faced with a tough decision that you don't agree with or believe in, it can cause rebellion. Still, it is strange that he ran away considering his tight knit family, but teens can be divided that way, and I understand completely. Stepdad #3 was a Mason. I remember it being a very secretive club with members who followed obscure protocols, different from other clubs.
