Comments on Seniors Working in their 80's

It is a sad state of affairs when one must work in their 80s in order to survive. My mom finally retired this year at the age of 76. My great aunt Edith worked until she was 90. Not because she had to, but because she felt strongly about having a purpose in order to live a long life. Her husband, my great uncle Charles lived very long lives. He passed a day short of his 101st birthday, and she was 98 when she died.

Friend of mine had a saying: "Work sweetens life." Perhaps those working into the golden years are feeling rewards beyond the paycheck. After I retired at 70, I took a volunteer job at a community center as a receptionist. The pay was hearing the stories of those who had been there, done that and come out on top...

Mike.....

I hadn't thought about how many octogenarians still need to work to keep food on  the table and other needs.  At 88+ I don't know if I could or not.  I get worn out easily and take naps.  I can't imagine that many still having to work to live.

This is heartbreaking to read. We should be able to do better by those folks who are Seniors, especially those over 80, who have to work. It must be so hard for them.

Goodness me I retired at 60, sometime before the end of that year. Three of us were talking, One a dr and two of us nurses and we had all arrived at the same conclusion that we were losing our edge, not something one wants to do such important work and feel.

I really don't have a job that pays because I don't need money, but I enjoy getting up, getting ready then heading to my daughter's salon. I keep her books for her. It keeps me young at heart!

Good Afternoon

BearcatMike, My prayer is that people who need help can get it.  There are so many in need with nowhere to go.

It breaks my heart when I see a senior working who has no choice. I hope that we can figure something out as a nation.
