Scary stuff to hear when you are a kid. I imagine the fear was much like the one surrounding COVID and other plagues and diseases. Thank goodness for the scientists who never stop searching for treatments and cures for the illnesses that can wipe out a community.

I remember my parents being afraid for us about it. It was awful. My late SIL had it when she was a child and was in an iron lung. She recovered and walked fine. Amazing, now that I think of it. My hubby remembers her, though. She was his older half-sis.

I cannot remember that plague. Pneumonia was a rough call my Dad had it three times before any treatment was offered. One village a few miles away had an illness that nearly wiped all of them out. It is surprising how soon it was forgotten.🌺

Good Afternoon
Polio was a terrible disease! I can remember being very young and standing in line for a sugar cube. My Mom was a nurse and insisted we get the medicine.

It was terrible in Australia as well. We hardly went off the property when I was a little girl. I didn't see much of my Grandmother for years and if we did visit, everyone wore a camphor bag around their neck, and held a handkerchief to their nose. No one knew what else to do!
