Re:
CCT, I'm so glad your house warms up quickly. It usually takes a little bit to warm my house up, but once it's warm, it's really nice inside. I'm so glad Archie picked up all the ashes, bagged them along with all the nails, and got rid of them. It saved you a lot of work. Oh my! Just the thought of a dead rat is too much for me. I'm glad he buried it. It would have smelled really bad. The cat probably did get him. I hope you had a good day and have a good night. Our wind chill was 10, and it's still very cold here tonight. My grandson Caeser and I had hot chocolate this evening. It was nice on a cold evening. I want to get some marshmallows for our hot chocolate. I know the kids will enjoy them. I can hear the snowplows going down the road this evening. They keep the streets clear for everyone.

One thing my house warms up quickly . I have to remember to turn the thermostat down or it really gets to warm overnight. It does seem though that we are getting a series of warmer conditions here. Archie my helper keeps moaning, he wants a frost to knock the Dahlias down He did have fire Nov 5 he burned a lot of old wood that came off of pallets. I told him I would have to go over the ground with a big magnet and pick up the nails. When I looked this morning I saw that he had picked the ashes up and had bagged them nails and all. I expect he will dump it all in someone's rubbish bin. He was going to put a dead rat in mine. I made him bury it . I was surprised to see it. It was only half grown but the cat must have caught it. First we have seen this year.

Re:
Sam444, thanks for telling me the history of your houses and Christmas village. I saw a 3ft Christmas tree at Home Depot that is already decorated with lights and the best part is that it’s in a red sleigh. It lights with batteries. I’m thinking of buying it for my front porch. I asked my daughter her opinion and she said I should do whatever I want. I’m still thinking about having lights outside too.

I think new windows will help a lot. Cold days are for hot chocolate and coffee. We are in the 60's so I'm thankful for that.
You asked about my village houses. I started back in 1982 with dept. 56 since they were the sold by the local pharmacy. After that I would shop at places on my vacations. I had a large collection but at one point I decided to downsize and the shelf I posted is where I put just houses and trees. I had Dickens theme which eventually became Heritage Village. My daughter started collecting village pieces after she got married. She went with Lefton, quite frankly if I had been exposed to Lefton as opposed to Dept. 56 I would have preferred their products. They are so well made. However when the owner passed away they stopped making Lefton villages and accessories. I have 4 Lefton buildings in my village this year. Three are on loan from my daughter and I have the museum. When I started collecting some villages houses and people, etc I got some from Facebook marketplace and Ebay. I have to admit I had a lot of fun looking for the pieces I have now. My village is looking better with each piece I put in place.
Oh my, this answer is like a post in itself. Lol

I am definitely staying inside today.Snow is usually just a nuisance here. even if it settles it isn't enough to get excited about. I loved Canada in the winter because the snow would stay for about 3 months in the Ottawa valley.

Since I learned to drive, I've never liked snow much. That's been over 70 years now. But Florida is not an option. My dumb joke is there are too many old people there...

New windows will be beneficial for keeping utility bills low. I thought we would get some of your snow, but so far we've got nuttin' honey. John and I are headed out later to Applebee's for his free Veterans Day meal, and then we will take a drive to check out what's left of the colorful autumn leaves. Enjoy your day and stay warm.
