How things have changed some for the good. I remember a little gypsy boy being thumped in the back for not responding to the teachers demands. He was different, I felt sorry for him and a hatred for the teacher. .

Re: Mike....
Indeed, many times being the only member of a group can be challenging. From the 2nd grade to Junior High, I was the only black person in my school til I reached the 7th grade. It was difficult, but it taught me to survive. I had great schools and great teachers. Today, I am so thankful for the experience. It has served me well.

Amen. It's great to be exposed to different people from all walks of life. Interesting reading Donnie Wahlberg's story.

The Wahlberg family is interesting. Thank you for sharing their backstory. They also have a Wahlburger's Family chain started by their brother Paul. 🍔

Mike....
Very interesting. Something I never think about anymore. Around the time you speak of, my sons went to an all-white school. When my youngest was chosen to be an exchange student in the fifth grade to an all black school for a year, he chose to give it a try. He didn't think they did much to help anything. And, he was a blond curly-haired boy and acquired the name "Cupid" at the black school and every recess all the girls chased him around the playground to see who could catch Cupid. The next year he wouldn't go back there.

It’s interesting how opportunities open up to us in ways we would never dream.

I identified with this,Because I never seemed to be able to put down deep deep roots anywhere.I was born with deep roots but it didn't last, and somehow I have wandered all over the world, making friends, drifting apart because something moved me on, and here I am landed in the beautiful USA. I would like to end back in Australia but Jim and I need each other at this time.
