Good Evening
We would have different kinds of noodles with butter. Grilled cheese was good too, and pancakes. They are inexpensive.

I was blessed. When I moved to Sydney and attended college to earn my degree in Nursing, I had very little money. It was an inner-city suburb, but a relatively small community where we were, and so when the green grocer found out about me and my son, he would give us a packet of fruit and vegetables every day. Things that were still good, but he couldn't sell the next day.

The oldies used to say when asked what dinner would be. Sometimes the reply was Bread and pull it. It was more likely to be that or a screw. i.e.. one that was on its last legs.
