Mike....

My Dad would always get lost and my mom would get so disgusted with him because he  would not listen to her for at least 20 miles of wrong way and then he would give in.

Nice use of a metaphor!  I traveled all over the country using an atlas. No doubt I found myself off the path at times, but it was part of the exploration. I suspect Lewis & Clark had a compass when they found their way westward across the prairies and mountains until they reached the west coast. And then there was Sacajawea.

When I was young, we always used maps. Driving around the Australian capital was a nightmare, so I would watch the map while the husband fumed and worried. One time, I was sick of him not following my directions, not getting into the correct lane, and so on. Eventually, I threw the map out of the window, and he was shocked, but a lesson learned.
