You should have come to Australia like so many did after the Second World War. 10-pound Poms we called them. They paid ten pounds for their one-way fare and had to stay two years or pay the full price of the return fare. Most stayed, many went back, and some of them slunk quietly back to Australia after a year or two in the old country.

Why is it that the great ideas come to us when we are too old to do anything about them? I've thought about growing grapes and training them to drape over my pergola. I guess that maybe I should get to it before it's too late. 🍇

Re: Pat
Taste buds are sensitive when young, I expect they were delicious. We are just hoping for a few warm showers. 🌺

Immigration is a major conversation topic in the States. I imagine it will continue to be so for quite some time.

We lived next door to a hillside vineyard when I was in grade school. The vines were lovely and green even in that dry climate - the owner used irrigation ditches to keep them growing. And yes, we kids did swipe a few from time to time, strictly against mother's orders. I hope your hot spell gives up and you enjoy some typical and comfortable weather very soon.

CCT.....
.....The grape growing brings back so many memories.....Before they came to America in the year 1900, the Jelineks were the winery people of Czechoslovakia. So when Grandma and grandpa immigrated to America they had grape harbors and wine. There were at least three Jelinek families In Missouri (brothers). Grandpa made his own wine, played the accordion at the dances and worked in the Missouri coal mines.
