Wow, life is like that - at the worst possible time, something you really need breaks down. SO glad he got it repaired at a good value. I have experienced this on several occasions, in the summer and winter.

.....Ours went out the other day for about five hours in the hottest part of the day. But it was more than just the AD. No lights, no TV. Refrig off, no fans, no lights, no elevator. We (Sis & I) just sat and looked at each other,

Your comment about your son's air-conditioning unit conking at the worst possible time reminded me of Murphy's First Law. Thankfully, he had backup and the "know-how" to get it fixed in a timely fashion.
