Re: Adnohr .....

Boy that is a dilemma. I had forgotten that our Fred  (doggie named after Fred Flintstone when my boys were young) loved children and action so much that he found a way to go over our chain-link fence to play with them on the playground.  That was when all of the Sisters (teachers) wore long white habits in the spring months.  Fred got so excited he jumped up on one's front, left paw prints on her habit and licked her in the face.  We got a summons  and Fred ended up on a farm in the country.

With the family constantly harping on my downsizing, and moving into town to be closer, we have been looking at a house right beside my Little Flea's and great grandson's school. I think I would enjoy that, and the children are all for it, of course. Just wondering how my beasts would adapt from nearly isolated backyard to a busy, noisy playground. The yard is fenced in securely, but barking will slip through that easily.

.....Sad to say that the bodies of a man and a dog were found in the rubble of the burned house  after the explosion and fire had cooled.

Re: Pat....

.....I still remember my own grade-school in the summer....how empty and vacant it looked.   We could see it from our  front yard a city block away.

Re: Kabu....

....If I were 20  years younger and still driving, I would drive up and meet you somewhere for a day of whatever.   Nebraska is not all that far from Missouri.   I would bring Sis and we could do it up right......but.....the times have passed when we traveled together.

Re: Ciel.....

.....there are so many areas around Kansas City where the refuse is horrible in beautiful wild areas.   My great-niece's two teenage daughters just worked hard with other volunteers to clean up one of them in their area of the city.

Re: FSI....

.....Thank you for that reply....based on  that I would go read it myself if I hadn't already read it.

Beautifully written—your post captures the quiet shift from school-year bustle to summer stillness so well. The contrast between peaceful scenery and nearby chaos is striking, and that final train whistle gives it a poetic touch.

A pleasant new view is so refreshing! And I have  no doubt you're right about the people who take refuge in the woods.

it sounds quiet and peaceful where you are situated. I am happy for you about that and to be honest I prefer the animals to too many folk though I miss my next door neighbor. She has been away for months and no one has mowed the grass. it is very tall now.

I can relate to that abandoned feeling, Taps! School's out here too, and the playground is deserted. Great Northern rerouted its trains about 25 years ago, so we no longer hear the lonesome train whistle in the distance. I miss the reminiscences a train whistle brings, thoughts of long ago travels and the settling of the west, etc. Have a great day!
