Grits are basically corn meal. We used to call it mush, cooked up as a hot cereal and served with butter and brown sugar, or possibly maple syrup.

I do believe "grits" are chopped up hominy. Are you familiar with "hominy". I haven't had either of them in years and years. My Dad liked them because where he was from that stuff was good eating.

When one is eating grits one must pretend it is, well whatever you like. I don't really know what grits are. We had something for lunch yesterday I said to my brother 'why are you not having a dumpling ' He said 'I don't like them so I gave you both of them.' Brotherly love. 🌺🌺
