The men's version not so much, especially if you were the one responsible for washing them.

.....My Mother (before Kleenex) boiled my Dad's "snot rags" (hankies) in a special container/pan just for that, Mother boiled them for quite a while in "Purex" water before ever putting them in the washing machine with grated homemade lye soap. After all that they were clean enough for us kids to iron them and fold them.

Handkerchiefs were horrible really especially for the one who had to wash them. 😒

So, cloth hankies are out. No more little embroidery training projects for grandmothers and granddaughters. Perhaps the little girls can learn to make biscuits from scratch. Or they can help gran learn the technology.
