Good Morning
Pat, as I read this post I kept thinking that everything would work out and the Family would have a beautiful homestead after all the Father's planning and hard work. It's sad for the family. I had high hopes for them.

Mother used to tell me stories of her grandparents from Denmark ...Peterson or Petersen are very common names from there. One problem for them of course was the language back in the early 19th century.

Pat.....
My Grandmother traveled to Oklahoma when she was eighteen by covered wagon. The family had two covered wagons because they had two girls and three sons to help with everything that went with a long and arduous journey. Her brothers were hard workers and she and her sister and mother kept "house" and cooked.

Good morning
How sad that he struggled so hard and traveled so far to make a better living for his family only to succumb to illness. According to the Old West stories, westward, ho travelers fell ill along the trail daily. Life has a way of being unfair like that at times. I watched a 1992 Western romantic drama starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. The synopsis was about immigrants racing to grab a free piece of acreage to build a farm and grow crops. After the annoying ad plays you can watch the movie trailer at this link...https://youtu.be/TnrqzfqSM1o
