That was so interesting to learn about the lye soap. I remember my mom mentioning something about soap made out of lye. I think when she was a kid or talk f about her mother or grandmother.

Times were actually very tough for the average person.
Actually housework and coming up with a nourishing meal for dinner, making a dollar go as far as two. Having a sensible vegetable garden instead of a sea of green and all the colours in the rainbow from the flowers gowing was just a dream. Mother didn't get her lovely flowers growing until I was nearly grown up. The vegetables had to come first.

Being part Irish, I enjoy the Irishmen's humor. What a special time in our world that was. I wouldn't mind going back to those good old days.
