Re: FSI

Thank you.

I am wrapping up the last little bit to send the 'book' form of this topic to my publisher for them to put in all forms of reading.

This is the opening of this book that explains what I am doing. I'm also including my standard "Disclaimer" I use in these types of books.

Let's Talk

If you are reading this story, the chances are good that you have lost someone who meant a lot to you. It doesn’t matter if it is a family member, a good friend, or even a beloved pet; everyone experiences grief at one level or another. Some people will not allow themselves maudlin displays, and others will not control themselves for months or even years. Everyone is different. Remember that.

When I lost my father, it took me about five weeks to get myself back together. My oldest sister grieved for almost two years. Both of us suffered a loss, but it took my sister longer to recover. It works that way the world over. In my job as a paramedic and then ER nurse, I saw death and destruction on an almost daily basis. That knowledge didn’t seem to help me when Dad passed away unexpectedly on a beautiful June Sunday, but at least I understood the ‘process.

Acceptance of death is a process. Some people can drive a race car at speeds of 200+ mph and not think twice. Others can pull a child out of a burning building when everyone else has run out. Not everyone handles ‘emotional trauma’ the same way.

I will use quotes from books and philosophers, followed by my interpretation of that phrase that could be meaningful to you. Some quotations and my notes may mean nothing to you, but then there will be one that will speak to your heart. I will use my experience in handling ‘death and dying’ to help you understand your loss. I attended a lecture by Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross at the University of Michigan in ~1973, I think.

In 1969, Dr. Kübler-Ross wrote *On Death and Dying,* which brought her to the world’s attention. Later in her career, she became associated with the Moonies organization, destroying her credibility for many people. I have read the book multiple times, and I still think she had it right throughout my medical career. I will post nothing about Dr. Kübler-Ross’s book, but I would recommend it if the concept appeals to you.

Some notes will be brief, but some may be several pages long. Here is an example:

The caterpillar dies so the butterfly can be born. And, yet, the caterpillar lives in the butterfly, and they are but one. So, when I die, it will be that I have been transformed from the caterpillar of earth to the butterfly of the universe. - John Haricharan.

Even though it is so hard to say goodbye to the people we love, they truly live on in those left behind. The skills they taught or the stories they told become your skills and your stories to pass along to someone else. Make the best parts of your loved one live on in you and those around you. Death does not mean that their memory died with them.

Finally, modern life would not be complete if there wasn’t a disclaimer. Here is mine:

What you have written makes a lot of sense to me.
