Re: Pat_B, they are called hedge apples in the Midwest.

I've seen balls like these on trees around here, new to me when I came to the Midwest, but I think these were called hedge balls. Maybe it's a local word and they're the same thing. I wonder why they repel spiders.

No, C_C_T, it is an Osage Orange tree that grows funny looking balls.
