On my Word program, I can set up the formatting for manuscript style, which is what you were describing. This is with a 5-space indent at the start of each paragraph, and double spacing between lines, and paragraphs. I use the menu to set up these specs in the "normal" mode. This standard setup is for the benefit of the typesetters who set up the published version - they can adapt this as they want to fit the final version of the book or magazine to be published. I was taught this format in creative writing courses.

Good morning
You only need one space between paragraphs after a punctuation mark when writing a letter or a story. Two spaces were used back in the day when letters, stories, etc. were written using a typewriter.
