This is the paragraph from Finding Myself Again where I addressed that situation.
The trauma of losing my wife was a terrible shock, even though I knew it was an inevitable situation. I hurt physically and emotionally beyond any conception of pain that I had ever imagined. Dozens of people had promised to 'be there' for me, but it was months before I saw any of them and didn't have them scurry across the street to avoid me. About the time you begin to accept the grief, then comes the lifestyle change.

A good idea, but I have found some tend to steer clear from the newly bereaved just subconsciously probably not knowing how to deal with the situation .
