my dear inkwell
I am in no pain at all. In fact my life is great and I am a very happy person. I have no need for God in my life.

Kooka,
But God does believe in you and if you can let go and let God, you CAN have rest for your soul in the here and now and heaven IS eternal rest. He knows your pain. Test him. As a start, just say, "yes," to God. I do respect your arguments however and so does God.
Have you ever gone into a Christian Bookstore and purchased some praise and worship music? It can be very powerful if you can overlook the fact that "yes, Christians are making millions over "Jesus junk" - I find some of what's being sold in those stores disgusting myself, but like any group, not all Christians are alike.
He loves you Kooka, he really does.
I hear your pain and will keep you in my prayers. I like your blogs, they challenge my thinking and how to explain my faith. So thank-you for that. God has simply made himself real to me on too many occasions to disbelieve in him now.

It talks to me as much as astrology does. Both are made so hit on the simple aspects of life in order to make the most people believe it is talking about them. Basically they are simple cons.
As for the 'best selling book of all time'. L Ron Hubbard is not a very good writer. Yet due to the fact that he started a religion, he got best sellers. (Yes, I just got the Scientology community upset at me now) The book does not have to be good or have good marketing for it to sell well. You just have to get people to think it means something to them. Also, it helps when you have organizations buying it by the hundreds for their use and to give out.
The marketing issue I was talking about is that it will not sell to a wide verity of people, only those who believe or wish to study it.
Oh, God and I really do not get along well. He wants to make me suffer by going to heaven and living forever, while I want to have a real end to it all and be able to rest when I die. We have a kind of understanding. I won't believe in him and he won't believe in me.

Amazing how God's poor marketing is selling the number one book of all time. I myself love the Psalms (songs), I'm a songwriter/poet and they are very truthful and comforting in one's dialogue with life and God.
But that's me. You have to find what works for you. I hope you do end up a Christian. Keep reading. Skip around and read what's speaking to you for the moment if you need to... "lucky dip," just open the Bible and see what verse you "land" on. You'll be surprised to see how often it speaks to your life.
God Bless. (I like house "churches" best - just small groups worshiping God in music and studying the word and praying for one another. The organized denominations of Christianity are undergoing an enormous change with many "mainlines" drying up and more modern types of groups arising.
No group is ever perfect and there's always the competitive race "to the top." But don't let all that keep you from the true God who wants you to know him and his great love for you. Take care. I'll get off my soapbox now.
