Re:
Remarkable what would burn we were always burning soil to make the garden
lighter. Once I had a heap of poultry manure it was OK. Then one morning my Dad
said put that bloody fire out . It was a job to see aross the road.

I was from a family with six girls and one boy. Burning the trash was his job. He loved it. It made him feel important to be "the burning man of the house".

I remember my g-uncle burning stuff in an incinerator (he lived with us). Then they were not allowed anymore. He dug a hole and was going to burn anyway and my dad had to stop him from doing that.

A good rememberance...living on the farm, all the scraps from house and garden went to the chickens and pigs and then once a year there was a great and glorious Bon fire of newspapers, old school work books, worn out clothes, and I mean worn out thread bare, impossible even to use as a duster.Plastic wasn't around so it was a pretty clean burn.
