Yes I remember that wringer washing machine too and sometimes something would be bundles up and Mother growling like an old dog, would release that safety bar with much grunting and instructions to stand clear!

I used to help mom on laundry day, and learned to be very careful while running the wet things through the wringer. Ours had a safety release bar, but I don't remember ever needing to use it.

Totally agree with Sherri. You suddenly reminded me of the evils of the roller washing machines and our neighbor who caught her hand in hers. The sight of the bleeding splits between each finger of that hand made me forever use a stick to put the clothes in our wringer.
