We had one as kids, it was like one could make beautiful patterns quite easily.
A homemade one must have taken some doing.

This reminds me of my growing up years with my grandma Jelinek's Czechoslovakian crystal paperweight filled with colorful crystal flowers. We always had it in a southern sunroom window. When the sunlight hit it there were beautiful spectrums shining on the wall. I would turn it slowly and the rainbows would move along the walls.
