Go to Life in the fast lane--where's the on ramp?

Maybe we are seeing the effects of too many people too close together: we become more insular, less gregarious, with neighbors who hardly know each other to say hello to.

I was pretty free to room all over the farm if I wanted. No stranger danger there Well there was one Summer...but mostly I would be kneeling by my bed a book on the bed and read.

I love this post. The story is much like that of ours when we were raising ours except we had no girls. Plenty of old people though. One old deaf lady was 95. She could not hear but she could talk. She loved for Mark to come sit on her porch swing and let her talk to him. I don't think he even realized that she couldn't hear him.

I really think those days were less stressful although we were all definitely poorer.
There was such a nice form of recognition. The trouble today is that folk move from
one place to another and friendship is hard to come by. You can still turn the good
stuff out. be happy,.

Good Morning
Pat, I loved reading this post. This was a different time and such a nice way for children to grow up. Things are so different now. I rarely see children playing outside.

Good morning
That is the dream neighborhood that barely exists these days. I partially grew up in Klamath Falls, Oregon, next door to an older couple. She taught me to crochet when I was eleven. I always enjoyed hanging around the older folks. They had so many stories to share, and I learned a lot about history from them. John and I sit outdoors on our patio. We like to say hi to the dog walkers and the other neighbors that stroll by our house. Have a great day.
