My cat, Pitiful, was like that. She was a feral cat that took a lot of patience to care for her. The last time she got put into a cat casrrier the man who was trying to help me got badly scratched and the cat cried lowdly all the way and was very difficult.

Congratulations on your rain! We are enjoying what we get here, but I still have to water the plants on the deck where rain doesn't reach.

Re: Amanda
Hello, keep your sunglasses on. I wear a big Australian hat, and of course use suncream.

Re Pat
Yes, we grow them up canes, I try and get the stringless variety. Archie usually digs trenches in the Autumn and fills them with composted material. One can grow the ground variety but they are not so good really. It is a job to buy a decent bean in the supermarkets they are always picked for size. The sparrows used to peck my brother's bean flowers, I told him to get the white flowers variety, they ignored those.

I admire your cat's independence, it's stubborn refusal to be treated
"for its own good," even though it might be better off if it followed your lead. I have always had good luck with tomatoes in very hot weather, and pole beans. In case you don't use the same terminology as our family does, the vines of pole beans grow upwards clinging to strings tied at an angle to 6 or 7 foot high poles.
