I always thought that Mr. Blake's poem was about crooked and greedy men in power (worms) destroying their beautiful countries (the rose). I certainly can see why someone named Rose would not appreciate his lyrics!

don't like that poem either. I had an Auntie Rose and she was rather odd but easy to love which I did. She wasn't quite 'good' enough for the family perhaps that was one reason I favoured her.

Poetry can be harsh at times. You have a beautiful middle name. My granddaughter's name is Chloe Rose. I also like the name Betty. That was a name that the boys once used to describe a pretty woman.

Sometimes poetry is not lyrical and joy-bringing. Just like life.
My younger sister's name is Rosalee, and I've always called her Rose. She lives in Oregon, and we correspond via email these days. I hope your St. Patrick's day is a celebration and remembrance of parades, hugs and all good things.

I remember when my sister had to memorize The Highwayman for recitation in class. I don't think that's been a usual curriculum item since those days, the 1960s, by when it was already a holdover from earlier times. But I still remember... The Highwayman went riding, riding, riding...
The Rose within the rose remains perfect, beautiful and sweet-scented.

The meaning of words change at different stages of our life... what little Rose found confusing is clearer today..... however a rose 🌹🌹 is a beautiful flower and always reminds me of good things.❣️
